Understanding the Meaning of LGBTQIA2S+

The acronym LGBTQIA2S+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and Two Spirits. This term is used to refer to a wide range of gender identities and sexual orientations that are constantly changing and evolving. It is essential to note that if someone identifies as LGBTQIA2S+, it does not necessarily mean that they identify with each of the elements of the community. The term lesbian is used to describe a woman who is attracted to other women.

Gay is used to refer to a man who is attracted to other men. Bisexual is used to refer to someone who is attracted to both men and women. Transgender is an umbrella term used to describe individuals whose gender identity or expression does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. Questioning refers to people who are exploring their gender identity or sexual orientation.

Intersex refers to people who have physical characteristics that do not fit into the traditional definitions of male or female. Asexual is used to describe people who do not experience sexual attraction. Two Spirits is a term used by some Indigenous North Americans to describe people who have both masculine and feminine spirits. It is important to recognize that gender identities and sexual orientations are constantly changing and evolving.

It is essential to be respectful of everyone's individual identity and not make assumptions about someone's gender identity or sexual orientation.
